Image Compressor is a free online tool to reduce image file sizes instantly. Compress JPG, PNG, WebP, and more — no uploads, no accounts, completely private.
About Image Compression
Image compression reduces a file’s size while keeping it visually usable. Our tool automatically applies the right technique for whichever image you upload — shrinking photos, screenshots, and graphics without any noticeable difference at everyday quality settings.
Everything runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript, with no server involved — see the Privacy section below for details.
How to Compress Images Online
Step 1: Upload or Drag Images
Click “Select Files” or drag & drop up to 20 images (max 50 MB each) directly onto the page.
Step 2: Preview Your Images
See all your images before compression starts. Remove duplicates or files you don’t need.
Step 3: Adjust Compression Settings
Use the quality slider to control compression strength (75% is recommended), or set an exact target file size instead.
Step 4: Apply Compression
Click “Apply” and watch the size drop in real time. Each image shows its original size, new size, and percentage saved.
Step 5: Download Individual or ZIP
Download images one by one, or grab everything at once as a single ZIP file.
Compress Images Without Losing Quality
At 75% quality, most photos shrink by 60–80% with no visible difference to the naked eye. The tool is also smart enough to detect when compressing wouldn’t actually help — if re-encoding would come out larger than the original, it keeps the original instead, so you never end up with a bigger file than you started with.
Key Features
- Drag & Drop Upload — drop images anywhere on the page or click to browse your device

- Target KB Feature — set an exact size goal (100 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, etc.) and the tool automatically finds the right settings to hit it
- Format Options — keep the original format automatically, or choose JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF as the output

- 100% Browser-Based — nothing to install, nothing uploaded anywhere
Supported File Types
You can upload: JPG / JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC / HEIF (iPhone photos), AVIF, and GIF (static or animated).
You can save as: JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF — either automatically matched to your original, or chosen manually from the format menu.
Not supported: BMP, TIFF, SVG, ICO, PSD, EPS, or camera RAW files.
Compress to a Specific File Size
Use the Target KB feature to set an exact compression goal:
- Click the “Target KB” dropdown
- Select your desired size (100 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, etc.)
- Click “Apply Size”
The tool automatically finds the right quality — and adjusts dimensions if needed — to land as close as possible to your target.
Common target sizes:
- Email attachments: 500 KB or less (fits most email server limits)
- WhatsApp / SMS: 100–200 KB (instant messaging friendly)
- Social media: 100–500 KB (fast loading on Facebook, Instagram)
- Product photos: 150–300 KB (e-commerce optimization)
- Blog posts: 100–200 KB (WordPress featured images)
- Web thumbnails: 30–80 KB (gallery and listing images)
Supported Devices
iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, and Windows, Mac, and Linux computers — on any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave). No app to install, no plugins, just open the page and start compressing.
Privacy & Security Guarantee
Your images are 100% safe and completely private. We do not view, share, store, or transmit your images to any server — all compression happens directly on your device using browser-based JavaScript.
How it works:
- Images are processed by JavaScript in your browser only
- No data is transmitted over the internet
- No files are stored on our servers
- Image data is cleared from memory once you’re done
Proof: disconnect your WiFi after opening the page — compression still works perfectly, proving all processing happens on your device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to compress images online?
Yes, safer than most other online compressors. Many tools upload your images to their servers, which risks your privacy. This compressor processes everything in your browser, on your device — your images never leave your computer or phone.
Will compression reduce image quality?
At the recommended 75% quality setting, any difference is imperceptible to the human eye. You stay in control with the quality slider, so you can trade off size against clarity however you like.
How much smaller will my files be?
Typically 60–80% smaller at 75% quality. The exact reduction depends on the image itself — photos with lots of detail compress differently than flat-color graphics. Use the quality slider to adjust to your needs.
What if my file is already compressed?
No problem — if re-encoding would make the file larger, the tool automatically keeps the original. You always get the best possible result.
Can I compress animated GIFs?
Yes, but animated GIFs are converted to a single optimized frame, so the animation itself is lost. Static (single-frame) GIFs are compressed with full quality preserved.
Does this work on mobile devices?
Yes — it’s fully optimized for iPhone, Android, iPad, and tablets, with touch-friendly controls and a responsive layout for any screen.
Is there a file size or batch limit?
Each image can be up to 50 MB, and you can compress up to 20 images per batch. For more, simply run another batch after downloading.
Can I download all images at once?
Yes — click “Download ZIP” to get every compressed image in a single file, ideal for bulk downloads.
Does it work without internet?
Once the page has loaded, compression works fully offline. You’ll only need a connection to download your results.
Do I need to know which format to use?
No — leave the format on “Auto” and the tool keeps your original format automatically. Manual format options (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF) are there if you want them, but they’re entirely optional.
🔒 Privacy Assurance: Your images never leave your device. Period.
