Does the counter include footnotes and endnotes?
Yes. Footnotes and endnotes sit on the same text layer as the body, so they are included in the total. If a publisher’s rule excludes notes, subtract them manually or export the body only.
Are hyphenated words and abbreviations counted as one word?
Yes. “state-of-the-art” is one word, “NASA” is one word, and “2024” is one word. This matches the rule Microsoft Word and Google Docs use, so the total will line up with what those editors report.
Can I get a count for just one chapter or section?
