What is a Word Counter?
A word counter tracks how many words are in a piece of writing by splitting the text at spaces and line breaks and tallying what’s left. It matters most wherever a word count is the actual rule being enforced an assignment capped at “1,000 words,” a cover letter expected to stay under 400, a speech timed by how many words it takes to say. Unlike a character count, which treats every letter and space individually, a word count reflects the real shape of the writing: two paragraphs of short words and two paragraphs of long ones can carry very different character counts while landing on the same word total.
